Guest post on A Little Obsessed

No blog post from me on this blog today however last night, I graced one of my favourite blogs - A Little Obsessed - and I'd love it if you could head on over and give it a read. I created an eye make up look using purples and added a few brown-y shades to make it more wearable. It's one look that I definitely can't wait to recreate during Freshers Week as I believe it's dramatic yet subtle in a beautiful way. You can read my blog post on Sabrina's blog here where you can find out the products I used and how I used them. I really hope that you like it!

What do you think about this look? Is it something that you'd wear?

RECREATE: Dancing on Ice's, Beth Tweddle's Look with Schwarzkopf OSiS+

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked whether or not I wanted to re-create Beth Tweddle's look from Dancing on Ice and as soon as I saw the glossy up-do pictures for myself, I jumped at the chance. I'm not someone who's very good with hair - I can simply straighten it, or curl it. But for work I do have to put my hair up which can sometimes be a nightmare on Sunday mornings. So here is my attempt at re-creating Beth's look...

As you can see from the images above, I'm definitely not a professional. But I really enjoyed creating this look. I could've sprayed the hair down more but I quite liked the strands flying around as it ended up looking less "done" and more messy which is a style that I like. I also like the effect that the ombre in my hair created. To create this look, I used the Schwarzkopf OSiS+ range which you can read more about here.

To create this look you need to start by blowdrying the hair smooth using a large round brush. I used my Kent large barrelled brush as I find that it's really good at smoothing down frizz and giving some lift to my hair. I applied the OSiS Body Me* first of all to give my hair more volume and also smooth frizz and add shine. I've used this product a lot since receiving it - not just for recreating this look - and I really do love it. I find it lightweight and non-greasy/sticky. It's a different consistency than what I'm used to - I tend to use mousse - but I like the change and find it smooths the hair down more than my usual mousse. Also, look at the packaging. Beautiful. After this, you need to brush your hair up into a high ponytail and secure it with a band. Make sure that you leave enough of your hair out at the front to create a fringe - a must have for me as I hate having my hair fully slicked back off of my face unless I'm alone! To secure the ponytail and keep it in place all day, spritz with OSiS Freeze*. I've been loving using this hairspray on my curls. I've been curling my hair a lot more recently and this hairspray is a key product that I use. It really does hold the hair in place whilst added shine - yet it doesn't weigh the hair down or make it nasty and scrunchy like a lot of other hairsprays. Once you've done this, add a tiny amount of OSiS Magic* to the ponytail to smooth down frizz and add shine. I've been reaching for this serum a lot recently; I may have to do a post on serums. After this, plait the ponytail into 7 fishtail plaits - I tried and failed at the fishtail plaits so in the end, I went for normal plaits. But if you can do them, do them because I love them. After this you want to wrap around 3 of your fishtail plaits and secure them using grips onto the crown. With the remaining 4 plaits, create a shape with them to give height on the crown of the head. Once again, make sure they're pinned in well using grips. You can see my grips as I wasn't very good at placing them. But I think it adds texture - I'll go with that excuse anyway. Finally, you want to use more OSiS Freeze* to keep the hair in place and finish by spraying OSiS Sparkler* all over the hair to leave a super glossy finish. And there you have it. It's pretty simple right?
What are your favourite up-do's? Have you used any products from the Schwarzkopf OSiS+ range?

BRITNEY SERIES: 'In The Zone' Inspired Make Up Look

I was looking through my Britney inspired make up looks when it occurred to me that I've never recreated my favourite Britney make up ever. This is from a photoshoot from 2003 that was for her In The Zone album and I can remember being 10 years old and looking through the album booklet, staring at how beautiful she is. The eye make up is golden, the skin is glowing and the lips are nude. It's also very wearable.
Skin
On my skin I used Benefit's Porefessional as a base and Keromask Camouflage Cream* as my foundation as I needed my skin to look as flawless as possible. I then concealed using Collection 2000's Lasting Perfection as it's a great full coverage concealer. I went on to powder the skin with 17's Pressed Powder as it adds a bit more coverage and it's semi-matte. After this, I used my Liz Earle Natural Glow Bronzer* as a blush and Sleek's Contour Kit highlighter to highlight the inner corners of my eyes and also my cheekbones.
Eyes
I primed my eyes using Urban Decay's Primer Potion and I then went on to use the Naked palette. I covered the entire eyelid in Virgin as a base and then sweeped Half Baked over my eye lid and also underneath my eye. I then used the colour Smog all over my crease and all underneath my eye in the middle. I then finished off with Darkhorse in the outer crease and also the outer corner underneath my eye. After this, I thinly lined my eye using 17's Liquid Liner on top and No7's Metallic Eye Pencil in Blackout on my waterline. To finish off, I used No7's Exceptional Definition mascara on my lashes and the HD Brow palette* on my eye brows.
Lips
For my lips I used a Natural Collection lip liner in Almond and added gloss which was Urban Decay's Lip Junkie in Naked.
L-R Liz Earle Natural Glow Bronzer, Sleek Contour Kit highlight, Virgin, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, 17's Liquid Liner, No7 Metallic Eye Pencil in Blackout, HD Brow Palette, Natural Collection lip liner in Almond, Urban Decay Lip Junkie in Naked.
So that is the finished look and swatches. I ended up really like it. My skin was very full on which if I was going to wear this look during the day time, I'd have toned down quite a bit - I probably wouldn't have used the Keromask foundation but instead switched for my Skin79 BB Cream as it still provides great coverage. I loved the eyes and I can see myself wearing them a lot and also surprisingly, I loved the lips. The colours didn't wash me out and created a beautiful nude lip colour. What do you think of this look?

RECREATE: Miley's Billboard 2012 Make Up Look

It was the Billboard Music Awards last night and I couldn't help but notice how beautiful and grown up one of my idols looked; Miley Cyrus. As soon as I saw the look I took to my make up drawers in an attempt to recreate it and here is the finished look.
Eye Lid Shadow Colour - Urban Decay's Virgin £32.40
Crease Shadow Colour - Urban Decay's Buck £32.40
Eye Liner - 17's Liquid Liner £3.99
White Eye Liner - GOSH Kohl Liner in White £4.99
Mascara - Revlon's Double Twist £8.99
Lip Stick - Lancome's Le French Touch in Soft Marshmallow Limited Edition
Lip Gloss - MissGuided's Lip Splash in Caramel £5.00
I really love this look. It's simple but glamorous at the same time. The eye make up really defines the eyes and makes them stand out and the lips look so stunning and full. I could easily wear this during the day and also for when I go out too if I'm pushed for time as it really doesn't take long to do. If I was doing a full face, I'd use a full coverage foundation like Estee Lauder's Double Wear and I'd contour heavily with Sleek's Contour Kit in Light.
What was your favourite Billboard look of the night? Do you like this look?

Umberto Giannini Up-Do Hair Styling Kit Review

I'm not a genius when it comes to my hair. I usually either straighten it, put it up in a pony tail or if I have time, curl it. I'd seen these kits by Umberto Giannini in Boots and I'd been interested in them every since I'd noticed them so when I was offered one, I couldn't resist.
I was sent the Up-Do Hair Styling Kit* and I was very excited to try it out. When I go to work I have to tie my hair up and normally, I just quickly shove it up and it ends up looking a mess. So I couldn't wait to recreate this look and wear it to work.
The back of the kit comes with everything you need to know about recreating the look. The instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. But if you're like me and you prefer to watch things there is a tutorial available on YouTube as well (which I've embedded down below).
If you purchase this kit you will receive some pins, grips, a pintail comb, some snag-free hair bands (only one is pictured here because stupidly, I couldn't see that there was anything inside the bag so I threw them away, so annoying), a black diamante-encrusted hair band and 3 hair donuts (one big, two small). I have nothing bad to say about everything included in this kit. From what I've seen, they're all very high quality products and work very well together to create a beautiful look. The headband in stunning - the pictures really don't do it justice and even if I don't recreate this look I use this very often as it's lovely on its own. The hair grips are better than my original ones and have now replaced those. The pintail comb is wonderful and is another item that I use on a daily basis. The hair donuts and the pins are very sturdy and keep the style in place all day long and the snag-free bands are stretchy and once again, sturdy.
These photos are from the first time that I tried the look out so it is a little messy. But if you're like me and you don't like your hair to look perfect then you can leave it this way. I really love this kit and now that I've had it a while I can create this up-do in around 5 minutes which is incredible. It's really beautiful, simple and chic and I now feel as though I'm better when it comes to hair.
This kit (and a few others) are available from Boots for £12.00

PixiWoo Recreation

I'm a big lover of YouTube and whenever I have a few spare moments, I'll always be on YouTube. I saw a make up tutorial from PixiWoo (shown below) and I just had to try and recreate it.
I didn't have the same eye palette that was used in the video so I had to try and dupe colours and although it doesn't look quite the same or quite as beautiful, I do really love it.
I used Bootycall, Snakebite and Blackout from the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette which you can see swatched here. I also then added a little bit of 17's Liquid Liner as eye liner and many different mascaras to build up volume.
If you like the look of this then you have to enter my giveaway as I'm giving away a Naked 2 palette (and a MAC lipstick). I paired this look with muted down, neutral lips and flawless, contoured skin.

BRITNEY SERIES: Toxic Make Up

Recently I've been attempting to recreate some of my favourite Britney make up looks. They might not be perfect but I've been having lots of fun doing so! I've renamed all of these posts 'Britney Series' and I'm thinking of continuing this on. So next up we have Britney's Toxic make up. When I see this look recreated, I'll normally see the air stewardess make up but I'm a bigger fan of the black haired vixen Britney!
So, this make up look is very smoky, very dark and very glossy! To recreate this, I used 17's Falsifeye eye liner as a base and drew out the shape that I wanted to create using an eyeliner brush. This also helps the colour last and it helps it be more intensified. I then pressed Urban Decay's Creep on top of this to make sure it didn't look too 'done' as this look is pretty messy and also to add a bit of shimmer. After this, I blended Urban Decay's Gunmental above the black liner/shadow to make it more smoky and once again, make it look a bit messier. To finish this look off I applied some false lashes from KISS in 02 and pressed Vaseline over the top to make it more glossy.
I really like this look. It's very intense but it definitely isn't something that I'd wear on a night out. I think it's a bit too 'out there' for me but it's a look that's fun to recreate as you can afford to be messy with it.
You can view the rest of this series here. And if you have any Britney make up requests please let me know and I'll see what I can do for you!

BRITNEY SERIES: Radar Make Up

This make up isn't perfect and if I could, I would've used a completely matte grey that was a few shades darker than the one I used. But unfortunately, I don't use greys very often and I especially am not a big fan of matter eye shadows so I don't own one. But this look was pretty simple to recreate. It's from Britney's music video for her single Radar. It isn't one of her best music videos but there's no doubt that she looks beautiful throughout it - that is including her make up.
On the eyes all I used was Urban Decay's Pistol colour. I pressed it onto the eye lid and blended it outwards to create a 'V' sign and elongate the eye. I then used Urban Decay's Blackout as an eyeliner as Britney's eyeliner is this look is pretty soft which is something that's hard to achieve using an actual eye liner. The mascara I used was Lancome's Hypnose for reference.
I also don't own any red lipsticks so I tried my hardest to recreate a red lipstick using coral colours. I used MAC's Costa Chic and Barbara Daly's Coral. Once again not perfect, but the closest I could get.

I actually really like this but I do think it'd look a lot better with a matte grey eyeshadow like the one Britney is wearing.

BRITNEY SERIES: Hold It Against Me Make Up

Seeing as my last Britney Spears make up tutorial thing was pretty successful, I thought I'd do another one from her Hold It Against Me video. This video is definitely in my top 5 favourite Britney videos. For the general public, it's just a well put together video but for the fans, it has a deeper meaning. It subtly showcases her life and it's also made better by the fact that she looks beautiful. Her make up in the video is on form and I've always loved it. It's a simple eye liner look that when trying to recreate, is very hard! I'm not terribly happy with how this turned out but seeing as I don't really have anything else to post about today I thought I'd show you the final eye make up.
The eye liner that has been used is 17's Falsifye and the and the false lashes are Kiss Premium Lashes in 02. The eye liner was actually very hard to do and it took me a while to do it. It did look a lot sharper in real life but when it transferred to pictures, it looks a lot softer and doesn't have such a 'clean cut' edge. I'm hoping to re-do this soon and hopefully make it look a lot better.
On skin, I'd have used a full coverage foundation as Britney's skin is so flawless. I'd have added a little bit of Benefit's High Beam to add a lovely glow and MAC's Pink Swoon blush to add a pop of colour to the cheeks. On the lips, I'd have used a pink lip gloss such as Avon's ColorTrend in Sheer Pink. I also thought it'd be a good idea to post the video for you as the above picture isn't that good.. Plus the video is too good to miss!
Would you like to see more of these looks? I'm considering recreating Britney's Slave 4 U make up?

BRITNEY SERIES: Stronger Make Up

I've always been a fan of Britney's make up in her music video for her single 'Stronger.' And tonight, I haven't had anything to do so I thought I'd attempt to recreate it. I'm quite happy with how it turned out even though I'm pretty much an amateur when it comes to make up. You can enlarge these images aswell to take a closer look!
I used No7's Stay Perfect Eye Mousse in the colour Pewter as an all over base colour. I also took it into the corner of my eye and underneath my lower lash line to brighten up and give the powder shadows something to stick to. After this, I used Urban Decay's Gunmetal in the crease and winged this colour out to elongate the eye. I then outlined Gunmetal with Urban Decay's Creep and then blended the two colours together. After this, I mixed both of the colours together and used them towards the outside of my lower lash line. To then brighten up the eyes, I took a mixture of Urban Decay's Pistol and Verve and blended both of these colours from the inside corner of my eye to the darker corners. I then took both of these colours underneath my lash line and blended into the darker ones aswell. After this, I lined my upper lash line with 17's Liquid Liner and my waterline with Gosh's Kohl Eye Liner in the colour White. I curled my lashes with No7's Lash Curler and then applied one coat of Avon's Supershock Mascara before applying Kiss False Lashes in the style 02. After all of this, I took some random glitter and pressed this over my entire upper eye to make it glow more.
I used MAC's Studio Sculpt foundation all over my skin and then Collection 2000's Lasting Perfection Concealer to cover up my scarring, spots and tidy up around the eye area. To contour my face, I used Sleek's Face Contour Kit in the Light and contoured underneath my cheekbones and the outside edges of my nose. I also used the highlight part on the upper area of my cheekbones. I also used Bourjois Blush in Rose De Jaspe to further contour and add some colour to the cheeks. On my lips, I used a mixture of 17's Ultimate Volume Lipgloss in Very Berry and Barbara Daly's Mega Shine Lipgloss in Breeze.
Above, you can see Britney's make up from the music video. I must add as I always do that I'm not a professional make up artist; I'm just someone who loves playing around with make up! And also, I couldn't recreate the look exactly because I have no idea which colours her make up artist was using at the time. But I've tried my hardest! I thought that this look wouldn't be very wearable but the more I look at it, the more I love it. It's really beautiful and even though both the eyes and the lips are strong, they go so perfectly together!
