MAKE UP | glo minerals Pretty in Pink

I am quite the fan of glo minerals as a brand, their lipsticks in particular. I have a few in my collection and they're the ones I tend to reach for. Sadly, I don't tend to read much about them on blogs, which is a shame because in terms of quality, their make up is second to none. The name says it all; they're a mineral make up brand meaning that their products are pretty much good for your skin. Their make up has been created by dermatologists too so you know you're getting added benefits. And when you've suffered with bad skin your entire life, this is a miracle. 

The brand set me a challenge to create a "pretty in pink" make up look using the products shown above. If you like my look, then please feel free to vote for it on their Facebook page. Anyway, onto how I created the look. When I first saw the Eyeshadow Trio in Ballerina* - £22, I was a bit nervous. You see, it's quite colourful and with my array of nude palettes you can tell that I'm not a "colour-on-eyes" person at all. But alas, I proceeded and I'm extremely happy with how the look turned out. I used the darker pink shade all over the eyes, the green in the crease and the lighter pink under my brow bone and my inner tear duct. It created the most beautiful smoky eye I think I've ever seen and the trio itself was a wonderful way for me to dabble into colour, without going too OTT.

Next up I used the Shimmer Brick in Gleam* - £27.50 which I instantly fell in love with. I'm a big blush fan and considering I use a lot of mattifying products on my base, I need blush and highlight to inject life and a glow back into my skin. This Shimmer Brick does exactly that. It comes with four colours - a champagne highlight, a beautiful Barbie pink blush, a deep rose-toned blush and a gold highlight. Oh it's perfection in every way. Easy to blend, last all day and nicely pigmented and glowing, you can create a multitude of looks with this one palette. It's one I'm most definitely taking on holiday with me. For this look I used the Barbie pink blush and the deep rose-toned blush on my cheeks and the champagne highlight on the tops of my cheekbones.

Finally, I finished the look off with the brand's Lipstick in Blush* - £15.00. As I said earlier, I really do love glo mineral's lipsticks. Despite being nicely pigmented and long lasting, they're instantly nourishing and hydrating and this beautiful nude finished the look off perfectly. It brought the make up together and complemented the smoky eyes nicely. Also for reference... my foundation is MaxFactor's FaceFinity, my powder is Rimmel's Stay Matte, my eyeliner is NYX The Curve*, my mascara is Green People's Volumising Mascara* and for my eyebrows I used Urban Decay's eyeshadow in Naked 2.

What I wore on my eyes

The other day, I posted an outfit of the night post - which you can find here - and before I went out, I posted  this image on Instagram. It received a few positive comments and a lot of people wanted to know how I did my eye make up so I thought I'd do a blog post about it. I used a few colours from the Sleek Storm palette which I've had in my collection for a while now. I have two of them and I'm selling one in my blog sale if you're interested - shameless plug there. Since the arrival of Naked palettes, many others have taken a back seat so when I went out the other night, I whipped my old love out and was pleasantly surprised. I'm sure most people have owned a Sleek palette in their lifetime but if you haven't, let me tell you this: the quality of the eyeshadows are outstanding. They're pigmented, soft and really easily to blend. They're a pleasure to work with. The Storm palette is definitely my favourite and I purchased it three years ago which set off my love for eyeshadows - I owe it a lot. I wouldn't say it's a definite dupe for the Naked palette but it does come with both shimmery and matte eyeshadows and all of them are different variations of nudes. If you're a make up addict, you can't be without this palette. I used the Seventeen liner as my eyeliner as it's very easy to use and lasts all night and then finished with the Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara which gives me fluttery full lashes.

Rise up, Lotus rise this is the beginning...

Another eye of the day for you all! I created this look a few nights ago when I was bored in my flat. I love purple eyeshadow as it really contrasts with my green eyes but I don't tend to use it often as it is quite a scary colour. 

I used the No7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow Trio in the colour Forest Fruits which I reviewed and swatched here. I used the lightest colour on the inner part of my eye, the darker colour on the outside and in the crease and the black to define my lash line. I was pretty please with how this look turned out seeing the photos, I wish I'd have winged it out a little bit more as when the eye is closed, the outer corner looks a little bit messy. But you live and you learn, right?! My eyelashes also don't look very nice but that's probably because I used a mascara that's pretty much dried up now - I should really throw it out.

But anyway, I've been loving experimenting with eyeshadow more recently so you can expect a few more looks, maybe! What do you think of this look? What's your favourite colour to use on your eyes?

Where would I be if you didn't believe?

A few nights ago I was bored. And I thought to myself, "what can I do to entertain myself?" And out of the corner of my eye I spotted my make up drawers screaming "open me, use me." I think they've been feeling a bit neglected recently as I haven't really been experimenting a lot with make up due to lack of time (pesky assignments)! So I decided to experiment with a look that I've never tried or attempted before...

I used the lilac on the lid and the dark purple in the crease from the No7 Eyeshadow Trio in Forest Fruits to create a nice glittery effect. I then went over the dark purple in the crease with Urban Decay's Blackout to make it more intense and the colour I wanted. But I still wanted the glitter to be seen so I went over Blackout a little bit more with the dark purple in Forest Fruits to further highlight this. Eyeliner wise, I used my trusty Collection 2000's Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner in Black and for mascara I used lots of them mixed together to create thick and full lashes. 

I must apologise for the blurring out of my eyebrows in these pictures. They really needed doing but I didn't think I was going to like the look enough to feature it on my blog so I didn't bother - oops! Also, sorry about the dodgy false eyelash application in the last picture. I'm not great with false eyelashes and I kinda rushed the application. But the picture showed off the make up so well that I just had to use it. I wasn't expecting to like this look. But I've actually fallen in love with it. I don't know if it's something that I'll be able to recreate but I will sure as hell try too! I was a little sad when i had to wash it away as I wanted to keep it on my eyes forever. It's very intense so it'll need to be paired with flawless skin and neutral lips but for a night out, I think this is perfect!

OOTD: It's Always a Good Time

I recently took a trip into town to get my eyebrows done and I thought I'd show you the outfit that I wore. I'm sorry about the background but I'm still trying to find a nice place to take pictures in. The lighting in this is pretty good as I'm stood right infront of my window but ideally, I'd love to take my pictures on a white background. But I don't think that's going to happen, unfortunately.

I went for a really casual look because I was only nipping into town. I love this dress especially when I'm feeling insecure because it hides everything and when a belt is added, cinches you in at the waist to enhance your figure. I wore leggings, of course. They're pretty much all I wear. I then paired the dress with my favourite cardigan from Warehouse. It was expensive but it's so soft and it's lasted me nearly 2 years so it was definitely worth the money. I then added the scissor and comb necklace from Tally & Hoe to the outfit as I love the long length chain and I think it completed the outfit.

OOTD: Holiday Edition

As promised, whilst I was on holiday I took pictures of the outfits that I wore daily. I must say now, in the pictures with the bird top I'm not wearing a bright pink bra, it's my swimming costume as this was my 'I'm going swimming out' so yes, I just wanted to clear that up haha!  Also, we went away in England and luckily for us, the few days that we had away we ended up with niceish weather. Not scorching hot but a lot better than what we've been getting recently so it allowed me to get my legs out.

I really love all of these outfits, especially the ones with the New Look skirt and it's definitely become my favourite item of clothing! It goes with pretty much any tshirt and is extremely flattering, pretty and easy to wear. I must also mention that the blazer doesn't have an exact link on the New Look website because I've had it for such a long time! I think I bought it when I was 15 and I saved up my lunch money to buy it and it's been a staple in my wardrobe ever since haha. To think it's lasted me 4 years is incredible and that definitely shows how well made New Look blazers are. So yes, these are my outfits that I wore on my holiday.

Outfit & Face of the Night: No Longer Freshers

Last night was pretty much the end of my first university year. Yesterday, me and my friends went out for a meal and then went out to a nightclub to celebrate the end of our first year. We also ended up having a sleepover at one of my friends flat and finally when we woke up this morning (or should I say afternoon) we took a trip to Morrison's cafe. Some of us are still here and we'll definitely be coming back to university for a few days at a time but last night was what I'd say was our last night as freshers. It's going to be strange not being around my friends at university any more as we've pretty much spent every hour of every day with each other. It's been a wonderful year.. definitely the best of my life and I can't wait until September!

This is the outfit that I wore. Both the play-suit and the shoes were both from New Look. And surprisingly, the shoes are very comfortable and I rarely ever took them off. If you know me, then you'll know that when it comes to heels, I walk to the club in them and take them off pretty much instantly so this is a big achievement for me! I really love the play-suit but it is pretty revealing and I had a few people on 'boob watch' all night. We even used body tape but that was useless and lasted for around an hour.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of my make up before I went out but these are the pictures that probably show it off best. I went for a more natural look with my eyes and I used Urban Decay's Sidecar and Darkhorse from the Naked Palette on my eyes as well as my favourite eyeliner from 17 and my favourite mascara from 17 also. On my eyebrows I used my trusty HD Brow Palette* and my Collection 2000 clear mascara to keep them in place all night. You can find out how I did my base make up here - the only difference is that I used the wonderful Benefit Porefessional Primer before all of my foundations/concealers/bb creams/powders etc. To contour my face I used the Liz Earle Natural Glow Bronzer* and to brighten my face up I used my favourite blush which is Nars Deepthroat. My fake tan is also Xen-Tan* and my nails (which you can't see but I will be doing a blog post on) are from imPress nails.*

Overall it's been a wonderful year and I wouldn't change any of it. I've met the greatest people and I know we're all going to be good/best friends for the rest of our lives. If I could say one thing to anyone; if you have the chance to go to university, go. You won't regret it. And the debt? Doesn't matter one bit. It's all worth it.

MAC Warm Thunder Dupe for just £8!

Last year, Barbara Daly launched a new range of beautiful eye shadows that were exclusive to Tesco. These were their Satin Swirl eye shadows which were named for their beautiful, swirled design and satin soft texture. To rival these, MAC has just launched their own version named the Extra Dimension eye shadow - these are priced at £16.50 each!

 Here you can see Barbara Daly's Satin Swirl eye shadow in Cinder Shine* applied to my eyes. It's such a beautiful silver that's very easy to apply and blend. I only used a small amount on my eyes above and built up the intensity towards the outer corner as it was for day. It lasted throughout the day perfectly.

I really love the close up picture as you can really see how wonderful this colour is. It's a lovely gunmetal silver that has such beautiful shimmer running through it.

They look absolutely stunning on Lauren and even though she's a lot thinner than I am, I thought 'why not?!' seeing as I practically live in leggings. Valentine's Day Nails!

In November I wrote a post about Myleene Klass' nail wraps and seeing as it's Valentine's Day today, I thought I'd show you these beautiful ones that you can all rush out and buy today for later on in the evening!

Once again these nail wraps last a really long time and don't chip or smudge. The only problem is that I found these ones a little bit harder to apply as you can probably see in the picture. But then again, I might have just received a bad batch as I've not seen any other 'bad' reviews about this. They really are beautiful and will add a touch of colour to any outfit on Valentine's Day. They retail at £5.00 for 24 stickers and a nail file at ASDA, Boots, Debenhams and JML.

Zane Lowe (also from Radio 1) has been down to Lincoln before in Freshers Week and he just remixed songs so I was expecting the same from Greg James. But he didn't, and he was actually very good!

Editing Pictures

When I heard the news that Picnik was closing down, I genuinely was gutted. Although I don't edit the pictures I use for my blog, I do crop them on Picnik as it's simple to use and doesn't tend to lose the quality. I did however find out that their premium features were going to be available free of charge, so I decided to have a little play around..

This picture is the original picture. I took it before going out one day and it's completely unedited. I'm not fond of this picture, but I thought it'd be pretty easy to edit.. and it was;

And this is the edited picture. I've changed my hair colour, changed my lip colour, changed my eye colour, accentuated my mascara, brightened my eyes, added blush, changed my hair colour, airbrushed my skin and gave myself a tan. And as you can see, the pictures are completely different. I look like a brunette Barbie doll in the second picture but I must admit, I love my eye colour and my tan!

My Eyeliner Story..

I've always loved eyeliner. It adds definition to the eyes and makes them stand out a lot more. You can change it up depending on how you're feeling; you can have a thick line, a thin line, a flick or even swirls - whatever you like! The problem is, I could never use eyeliner. I had tried everything - pencil, liquid, gel etc. You get the picture. However, you may remember this post where I bought a 17 giftset for just 48p and in that giftset is my now go-to eyeliner.

This eyeliner is 17's Liquid Liner in black. It's easy to use, the blackest of blacks and lasts throughout the day. I'm in love and I don't think I'll ever find an eyeliner this good.. even if I keep searching. If you're like me and struggle with getting that perfect line - this eyeliner is definitely worth trying out. And the best thing? This eye liner is just £3.99. Have you tried this eyeliner? I don't normally use false eyelashes - infact, I've only ever used them once and that was for my prom. But I definitely will do from now on. They look so beautiful and really highlight the eyes. The only problem is, I found these ones pretty uncomfortable. I also have a haul for you on things I got for my birthday but I suppose I should get this essay finished first!

EOTD - Playing With Make Up

Last night I was in my room watching YouTube videos and I really just got the urge to play around with the single eyeshadows that I swatched earlier for you. P.S I know I need my eyebrows doing.. bare with me! The finished result isn't perfect and it's not something I'd usually go for. But I thought I'd show you anyway..

The colour all over my lid is 17's Darkness as a base followed by 17's Glitter eyeshadow in Night Sky. I really wanted a black glittery eye for some reason and I'm very happy with how easily these eyeshadows were to apply and blend. 

In the crease I used a light colour and this was No7's eyeshadow in Truffle. I love this eyeshadow and I sometimes use it in the crease but not normally when I'm using a darker shadow on the lid. I do like it. It's definitely out of my comfort zone and it needed more blending but it literally took me 5 minutes. Oh my lashes is Avon's Supershock mascara - just one coat!
